Songs that remind me of my book characters and other random stuff

While writing I listen to:

  • Isochronic tones for creative tasks if I need to concentrate deeply. Apparently, there are all kinds of tones to fit your needs. Check them out on YouTube.

  • “Got You” by The Flys for 4 straight days while editing. No idea why. Obsessive compulsive? Probably.

  • Most songs while writing, but the sound of the TV distracts me like nothing else. I can sit in the middle of a noisy Starbucks and write with no problem, but the TV always pulls my attention.

  • Songs that remind me of my characters in The Illusion of a Girl. “Talk Too Much” by Coin reminds me of Brian.

  • “Ready For It?” by Taylor Swift reminds me of Lena.

  • “Can’t Feel My Face” by the Weeknd reminds me Jessie. “If I Knew” by Bruno Mars also reminds me of Jessie.

  • Different things and determine if it improves my concentration or sparks creativity. I’ve listened to OM chanting, the sound of waves and whales, but I haven’t noticed a change in my creative ability.

  • No heavy metal, country music or opera.

  • Nothing. Sometimes complete silence is best. The first thing in the morning when the house is quiet and the smell of fresh coffee fills the kitchen, that’s the best time to write.
