Domino in Deadpool 2 Has It Right

I recently watched Deadpool 2* again the other night (check it out if you haven’t) and I have to give a shout out to the character Domino. Domino’s super power is to manipulate probability, i.e. things go her way, or in other words, she’s lucky. What I love about this ability is we all have it, and it’s based on how we think about ourselves, our environment and others.

Case in point, recently I was sweating a job. I was worried I wouldn’t be offered it and I really needed it. So, I spent two days worrying (what if they didn't offer me the job, I would be so embarrassed, what if a previous employer said I sucked and so on). All the worrying bought me two miserable days.

It all worked out by the way, and it made me realize I needed to stop being afraid, second guessing myself and the list could go on and on.

It’s a tough habit to break as you can imagine. One of the things I did to come out of my two day tailspin was to listen to positive affirmations while I drove, before I went to bed and when I woke up in the morning. I did this just to set my brain on a positive thinking path.

I love listening to Louise Hay, the celebrated self-help guru, and reading her books. This particular YouTube video helped me a lot – 50 minutes of positive affirmations https://youtu.be/SkGtqFnStx0†. There are hundreds of free YouTube videos on this subject, so find one that feels good to you.

The really scary part about worrying is I didn’t consciously realize I was doing it. Due to my shitty childhood, I search for answers and understanding. I analyze my life, my decisions, and other people. If you would like to know more about my journey, you can read about it in my book and this blog at www.illusionofagirl.com.

In addition to making myself crazy, I also felt physically awful. My stomach, head and neck all seemed to be in a vice. As I was scrolling through YouTube, I noticed a video from Dr. Wayne Dyer, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMQQc-lnDu4&feature=youtu.be‡. When Someone Squeezes You - What Comes Out Is What Is Inside. I love this analogy from the late and still great Wayne Dyer.

What came out of me when someone squeezed me? Fear. I don’t want to live my life in fear. I’m working on letting my fears go and I'm getting better at worrying less.

As always, I share my experiences in the hopes it helps someone else.
