Child Abuse and Being Overweight

April 4, 2018

I recently read an article in People Magazine on Chrissy Metz, the actress starring in, This Is Us

The article confirmed something I wondered about the actress. I wondered if she had been abused as a child. Since I was abused myself, I suspect abuse in others where I see clear physical signs. Chrissy is a beautiful woman and she's obese. Her obesity is what made me wonder if she had been abused as a child, and according to the People Magazine article, she was physically and emotionally abused by her stepfather. I bet many people don't relate the two things, but if you look into the emotional reasons, I think it makes sense. Packing on the pounds seems like protection in a certain way.

There are lots of reasons why people are overweight, but I believe every physical issue has some emotional component. As Louise Hay, a self-help legend, said,

"mental DIS-EASE causes physical disease." I would highly recommend reading her book HEAL YOUR BODY

I think this is especially true for women. We internalize our hurt. I know I've done this myself. I've eaten too much when anxious, sad or just bored. While writing my first book, I gained ten pounds just from nervous eating. I'm writing my second book now, and fighting the urge to stuff food in my mouth. (I'm still working on losing the ten pounds!)

Louise Hay’s book was important in helping me understand my thoughts created my life experiences, and that the key to true happiness is self love. The root of all emotional issues is the lack of self love. I'll keep saying it because it's so important. I want to make this life the best it can be. Work on it with me.
