Green tips and Clean water

Water Bottles and K-cups Make Me Crazy

My efforts to live green are pretty simple. I purchased an AquaTru™ Countertop Ultra Reverse Osmosis System so I could have quality drinking water every day without buying water bottles. For me, it’s hard to drink water as it is, but if it doesn’t taste good, forget it. I keep two glass carafes in my fridge and fill those up daily for our drinking water. I haven’t purchased bottled water in three years. I also use the filtered water to cook with and make ice cubes. Beautifully clear ice cubes, I might add.

Nope, I am not affiliated with AquaTru in any way other than I purchased their countertop water system. Fun Fact, Erin Brockovich, a clean water advocate, also uses this water filtration system. If you would like to check it out, here’s the link AquaTru Countertop Ultra Reverse Osmosis System. The system also filters out:

  • Lead

  • Chromium 6

  • Chlorine and Chloramine

  • Fluoride

  • Pesticides and Fertilizers

It’s not cheap, but when I envision water bottles filling the oceans and landfills, I think it’s worth it. I’m very appreciative of all the “things” it filters out of my water too!

My other effort at being green is really simple and not expensive. I brew coffee in my trusty Mr. Coffee with a permanent filter. Nothing ground breaking to be sure, but not adding to the growing pile of k-cups. In addition, I don’t use paper or plasticware at home or at work.

I noticed when I worked for a Danish company, there were no paper or plastic products in the employee break room. Our kitchen was stocked with coffee cups, glassware, silverware and plates. We also had a sink and dishwasher with the expectation to pick up after ourselves.

My current US employer also follows this practice. I hope it’s a trend that catches on in other workplaces. I hope this blog helps in your journey of living green.
